University College London: Our first lecture in the capital goes fantastically… with a capital F

Following the very successful introductory lecture held at Abertay University in Dundee, we made the journey South to University College London.

A lovely sunny afternoon saw the students packed out the lab in the bowels of the Mallet Place Engineering building to listen in on what Samsung Electronics Research Institutes Sameer Ballewar had to say.

Presenting a brief introduction to the Challenge itself, along with Steel Media’s Lee Kenny, Sameer explained how students can get involved and gave examples of world renowned apps that were created in a similar time frame to the one the Challenge provides, along with examples of last years winners.

Sameer then outlined the principles and benefits of coding for Samsung devices and Samsung Apps.  The two main focuses of the challenge this year are the Note devices (with S Pen; Samsung’s very own stylus) and the ChatON service that you’re able to develop with too.

If you missed out on the lecture, fear not – all the slides will be made available soon.

Before we go, a huge thank you to Jill Saunders, Departmental Manager at UCL, for helping to arrange the lecture and spread the word about this amazing opportunity.

Where next?

We’ll be taking the tube over to the Strand tomorrow as King’s College London plays host to our lecture on Wednesday 10th October, taking the opportunity to stop at the University of Nottingham” on 11th October, before we rest up for another busy schedule next week!
