King’s College London

The new Department of Informatics in the School of Natural & Mathematical Sciences was formed on 1 August 2010. The Department consists of the former Department of Computer Science, the Centre for Bioinformatics and the Centre for Robotics Research from the former Division of Engineering.

Informatics is concerned with the study of the representation, storage, processing, and communication of information. It has many different aspects, including Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Telecommunications. The Department of Informatics at King’s seeks to address fundamental challenges and problems in all of these areas, as well as their application to numerous domains, including bioinformatics, healthcare, engineering, and many others. We believe that this breadth and depth of activity offers a vibrant and exciting environment for education and research.

Our Department has gained an enviable reputation in academia and industry for the quality of our research and the high calibre of our graduates. Each year, hundreds of students from the UK and abroad seek admission to our BSc, MSc and PhD programmes. We offer computer science programmes at an undergraduate and postgraduate level and some of our newest undergraduate degrees incorporate robotics. Our specialised postgraduate computer science programmes focus on topics including bioinformatics, web security, internet systems and software engineering. Our department also offers postgraduate research degrees in Computer Science and Robotics.
