Interview: Jayen from ‘The Gang’ at King’s College

As part of our ongoing interviews, we spoke to Jayen Kumar Jaentilal of ‘The Gang’ at King’s College to find out what he thought of the Developer Challenge so far.

Have you enjoyed the process and the codeathon so far?

We have definitely enjoyed the process so far. We have greatly enjoyed the codeathon as it granted us an opportunity to develop our group skills and technical abilities. The codeathon gave us the chance to kickstart the development of our application.

How do you feel about winning the codeathon?

Great! Simply great! We couldn’t believe that we produced something worth winning. Winning the codeathon has increased our confidence, which will us help a lot in the future stages of the challenge.

Without giving too much away, how did you get the idea for your app?

After discussing many ideas weeks before the codeathon we finally settled on this game idea. The game idea came from looking at what kind of games did well on the Android Play store.

Are you confident about your chances in the grand final?

Winning the codeathon has given us confidence in our skills and our app idea, and we are now going to do our best to reach the grand final. We feel that we have a chance to reach the grand final, but we will need to work extremely hard to make it.

What was your favourite moment and your biggest FAIL?

Our favourite moment was certainly seeing our idea on paper implemented on the device for the first time. Our biggest fail has to be when our application stopped working an hour before judgement, luckily we managed to fix the problem before the judgement was about to take place!
