One year on: Quartic Llama, an inspiration

So you’ve been given the heads-up on the Student Developer Challenge? Well there’s a very good chance you’ve heard Steel Media’s Lee Kenny or Chris James harp on about last years winning University, Abertay and their winning app Moeba, developed by team Quartic Llama.

Well here’s a little heads up on how it all started with the last Student Developer Challenge and some information about where they are now.

Quartic Llama is made up of three University of Abertay students; Erin Michno, Tom Demajo and Ian Reynolds. They wowed the Challenge from the very start with their app at the codeathon stage last year, going on to win the £5000 prize.

Since winning the competition, they’ve all graduated from Abertay and have started Quartic Llama as their own company, based at the university itself.

They swiftly added a fourth company partner, Malath Abbas, a BAFTA nominated game artist who also deals with the marketing and promotional side of the business.

Together with two more people, they’re helping finish their application to a higher standard ready for release in the Samsung App Store, whilst working on a number of other mobile projects.

Moeba: Quartic Llama’s challenge winning app

Ian Reynolds said: “We’re really excited about the release, and have already shown the game off at several high profile industry and public events.”

This comes fresh from speaking at the recent three-day ProtoPlay event in Dundee, with an impressive public attendance of over 10,000, where they received some fantastic feedback. The company is now really excited to see Moeba released very soon!
